Residency Permit

As the Republic of Turkey has its legal regulations regarding the residence of foreign citizens, there are also international agreements to which the Republic of Turkey is a party. The Basic Law based on residence permits of foreign citizens is the “law on foreigners and international protection”. The residency permit is usually valid from 6 months to 5 years.

The residence permit is granted in 6 ways in Turkey. They are generally as follows.

Turkey Long Term Residency Permit

If a foreign national has resided in Turkey for 8 years without a break, then the individual can apply for a long-term residence permit. People who have the right to a long-term residence permit can now reside in Turkey for an unlimited period without applying for renewal. After this 8-year process, only the right to apply is earned for people. After the application is made, it is evaluated, and the result is given by the competent authorities.

Property Owners Residency Permit

According to the Turkish law, if you buy real estate in Turkey, you can get the residence permit. Up to your wish, you can get 1 year permanent residency which can be renewed annually.

Turkey Short Term Residence Permit

A short-term residence permit is a type of residence permit that a foreigner must obtain if he wants to stay in Turkey for more than the visa period or visa exemption period, depending on the visa regime that varies depending on the nationality of the foreigner.

Turkey Humanitarian Residence Permit

The type of residence permit granted to persons who are deemed necessary to remain in the Republic of Turkey for humanitarian reasons is called a “humanitarian residence permit”. Article 46 of the law on foreigners and international protection and its subsequent regulation contains the basic conditions and rules on the issue of humanitarian residence permits.

Turkey Student Residence Permit

The type of permit issued for people who will be found for educational reasons in Turkey is known as a student residence permit. 

Turkey Family Residence Permit

It is a type of residence permit issued for people whose family is in Turkey. People who come to Turkey due to marriage can also apply.

Documents Required for Turkish Residency Permit For Immovable Property Owners

The following documents are required to apply for a Turkish residency permit if you own a real estate property in Turkey:

  • 6 clear and new biometric photos 
  • Original and copy of your title deed or rental agreement
  • Copy of your passport (keep passport with you), copy of your visa, and a copy of your entrance stamp on your passport
  • Turkish tax number
  • Copy and original health insurance for one year.
  • Birth certificates, passports, and photos of your children and spouse (if applying for a family residency permit)
